Butternut pumpkins are pear-shaped with creamy, buff coloured skin and orange flesh. The dense, dry texture of the flesh is very versatile and can be steamed, boiled, baked, roasted or sautéed. The butternut pumpkin has a naturally sweet flavour that is often enhanced with spices and syrups, but works just as well in savoury dishes. They are available all year-round.
